Ally McCoist picks Ederson over Becker as Premier League's best goalkeeper

Fan ejected for racially abusing Real Madrid’s winger, Vinicius Jr

Racism is a persistent problem that has been fought against for a very long time. It is unfortunate that racism can occur anywhere in the world and can affect people of all ages. Sadly, even in the world of sports, racism continues to exist. One person who has repeatedly faced racist incidents is Vinicius Jr., the winger for Real Madrid. Despite his talent and success, he has once again been subjected to racism from football fans in his recent game.

Sevilla takes swift action; Vinicius lauded

During the October 22nd match against Sevilla, which ended in a 1-1 draw, Vinicius Jr. of Real Madrid reported experiencing racial abuse. What makes this incident particularly disheartening is that the abuse came from a child, who is typically considered to be innocent, displaying racist and xenophobic behaviour towards him.

Vinicius Jr. also witnessed another act of racism from a member of the audience. A photograph captured by the Spanish newspaper Marca showed a man in the stands making a monkey gesture towards Vinicius. The winger then shared this photo on his social media platform. He also mentioned that he had seen a video of a teenage girl making the same offensive gesture.

In response to the racist incident, the opposing team, Sevilla, took swift action and expelled the fan involved, who happened to be their own supporter, from the stadium. Vinicius expressed his gratitude to Sevilla for their prompt response by stating congratulations for the quick positioning on the incident. These incidents further highlight the ongoing issue of racism in football that is reported in Sportsbet Soccer news and blog.

Vinicius Jr. being targeted by racist abuse throughout the last 12 months

Vinicius further highlighted that this incident was not an isolated case but rather the 19th time (and counting) he has been subjected to racist abuse. Over the past 12 months, he has unfortunately been a frequent target of such discriminatory behaviour.

In September 2022, Vinicius Jr. faced racist chants from Atletico Madrid fans outside the stadium. During the same month, some pundits in Spain criticised his goal celebration, which involved dancing by the corner flag. Unfortunately, in December 2022, he once again experienced racist abuse, this time from fans as he walked past them at Valladolid.

On New Year’s Day this year, an effigy of him was hung from a bridge near the club’s training ground before a game against Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey. The following month, he was subjected to racial abuse by Mallorca fans during a match.

In another month, he suffered intolerable racist behaviour during a game against Barcelona. Shortly after that, Vinicius endured further racist abuse during a match against Valencia. It is disheartening that he continues to face racism despite his achievements and contributions to the sport.

CBF President condemns racial abuse towards Vinícius Jr.

The president of the Brazil Football Federation (CBF), Ednaldo Rodrigues, has issued a statement condemning the ongoing racial abuse directed at Vinicius Jr. He expressed his support for the Real Madrid winger and stated that it is deeply troubling to witness repeated acts of racism targeting the player.

In addition, Rodrigues emphasised that racism is a crime that should never be tolerated, but rather actively fought against. As a fellow Black individual, he expressed his understanding of the pain that Vinicius Jr. experiences whenever subjected to racist attitudes from fans. Rodrigues made a promise to always stand in solidarity with the victims of racism and stressed the importance of not normalising such behaviour.

Despite facing ongoing racial abuse, Vinicius Jr continues to perform well and make a significant impact on the football scene. His resilience and talent are evident as he overcomes adversity at such a young age. For more information about Vinicius and other soccer news, you can stay tuned to Sportsbet soccer news and blog.
