On Wednesday, Real Madrid revealed that they had acquired highly regarded English midfielder Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund

After three fantastic seasons at Signal Iduna Park, a protracted saga over the 19-year-old’s future came to a conclusion yesterday when Los Blancos paid €100 million to retain his services.

The Birmingham City academy graduate signed a multi-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu and donned the illustrious number five jersey once owned by iconic French playmaker Zinedine Zidane.

Bellingham said that his respect for the legendary midfielder played a significant role in his decision-making in his first interview as a new member of the Madrid team. The incredibly gifted playmaker, though, wants to build a name for himself in the Spanish capital, even though he has insisted that one of the reasons he chose his new shirt number is to pay homage to Zidane.

Bellingham says he’ll always hold his former number in his heart and wore No. 22 during his remarkable time at Dortmund. On the eve of his lucrative move to Madrid, Bellingham won the Bundesliga Player of the Season award for his outstanding performance for Dortmund.

On the final day of the 2022–23 season, Dortmund came agonisingly close to winning the championship despite his remarkable contributions. He is now prepared to begin a new career in Madrid after being predicted to be one of the Bernabeu’s future leaders after Karim Benzema left for Al-Ittihad. Luka Modric’s future with Los Blancos is uncertain, so Bellingham will probably have to step up to playmaker under Carlo Ancelotti.
