New challenge for Jude not an easy one

Jude Bellingham is officially a Real Madrid player. The Spanish giants made a fast move on the young England international amid rising interest from Premier League clubs and this move, when fully paid for, will rank as one of the most expensive transfers in history. To acquire the services of the youngster, Real Madrid paid Borussia Dortmund an initial fee of £88.5m and the potential add-ons will take the amount to £115m. This deal will definitely make Bellingham the most expensive English player, should it rise to £115m. For both clubs, this looks like good business; the worth of the youngster, a gain for Real Madrid while Borussia Dortmund make a massive profit on the player they got from his boyhood club, Birmingham City FC. This all is on the backdrop of the player being just 19 years old, and already an established England international. Bellingham presents all that is ambitious about Real Madrid’s future and after signing a six-year contract, he has the chance to make a name at one of the world’s football powerhouses.

Fitting in

The big question however, is how does Bellingham fit into the Real Madrid squad? This question comes on the back of one of Real Madrid’s biggest transfer flops – Eden Hazard – the big money signing from Chelsea, who went on to be a shell of the player they signed. There can only be one explanation for Real Madrid’s transfer activity. After missing the Champions League and La Liga, they want to get the best player to challenge for such honors and Bellingham fits the bill. Talented youngsters

There is a wide range of talented and young midfielders at Real Madrid, who have formed a perfect blend with the experienced heads at the club, so it will not be a direct entry to the first team for Bellingham. Luka Modric and German Toni Kroos are already counting for massive experience in midfield, with a combined age of 70 years. They remain crucial for Real Madrid going into the 2023/24 season. Apart from the experienced heads, Bellingham finds a load of younger players, most of whom he will have to battle against for a starting berth in this team. Frenchman Aurelien Tchouameni, a £68m acquisition from Monaco, has just completed the first of his six – year contract at Real Madrid. He is only four years older than Bellingham. There is also Eduardo Camavinga, another French youngster to offer Bellingham competition, and he is only a year older.  Then there is Federico Valverde; the Uruguayan has been at Real Madrid for some time now and is almost hitting 200 appearances for the club. These will not be players Bellingham finds easy to topple, especially with the pressure that comes with his price tag.
