Eduardo Camavinga expresses frustration over positional role at Real Madrid
Eduardo Camavinga, Real Madrid’s emerging star, revealed his frustration at being continually pushed into an unfamiliar left-back position in a recent update from the Santiago Bernabeu. Since joining the club from Rennes in the summer of 2021, the young midfielder has shown to be an important asset for Los Blancos.
While Camavinga has adapted brilliantly to the left-back position due to squad limitations, the demands of the position do not match his natural playing style. While everyone on the team praises the 18-year-old’s adaptability, it has created a lighthearted online joke in Spain, where fans playfully acknowledge his ability to fill numerous roles.
However, Camavinga has made clear his preference to play in his usual center midfield role in recent interviews heading up to France’s international friendly against Scotland. As Real Madrid’s only left-footed midfielder, he is frequently Carlo Ancelotti’s first pick to replace the left-back position when Mendy and Garcia are unavailable.
“They ask me this every day. I am someone who plays for the team and when I am needed. I did not know this position before, but it is where I have adapted, whether with the French national team or with Real Madrid. But I don’t particularly like that position. I think everyone knows it but if I have to play there I do it even if it’s not necessarily with pleasure. I’m still a midfielder,” Camavinga stated.
“When I have to play it is not so hard. I spoke with the coach. But as I have always said, the most important thing is the team.
“Someone had to be put in that position and, seeing that I am a team player, I have played there even though I don’t like it too much.
“The best thing is to give everything for the club and for the team. You don’t always have what you want in life and you have to see the good side.”
Despite his dissatisfaction, Camavinga stays loyal to the team and willing to play any role required. Real Madrid fans and management will definitely hope for a solution that allows the bright young player to thrive in his preferred position while balancing the team’s needs and Camavinga’s goals.
