How overrated is Eden Hazard? He has not done anything positive since coming from Chelsea. Real splashed a record deal of over £100m to get him, hoping he would be their attacking talisman.

18 months into his signing, Hazard has featured in just 28 games scored thrice and laid out 7 assists. That is not what you expect out of a marquee signing, not to mention the games he turns into a complete passenger in attack.

Hazard was a massive name at Chelsea but might be overrated at Real.

4. Marco Asensio

Marco Asensio begun his Real career with a lot of pomp and glory. Incredible strikes against Barcelona, star appearances off the bench and a couple of Man of the Match performances pegged him as a future great.

After five seasons, Asensio has not quite established himself as a starting figure. He is versatile and highly technical but lacks that confidence to perform day in and day out. People still rate him greatly and 24 he might be more overhyped that what he really is.

3. Vinicius Junior

Vinicius Junior was likened to Neymar’s signing to Barcelona. The next wonderkid from Brazil with the world at his feet. Florentino Perez sanctioned a £45m to prize him out of Flamengo, beating a number of European outfits including rivals, Barcelona.

Vinicius got great opportunities to shine early on and while he showed plenty of skill, there is simply no end product to his game. The youngster continues to struggle with his final shot or pass. We can call it and say he is NOT the next Neymar. A good player, yes but not a world-beater.

2. Raphael Varane

Raphael Varane is hailed as one of the world’s best centre-backs. But is he really? The Frenchman alone cost Real Madrid in key Champions League games this season. His error prone attitude has not escaped his feet despite the years rolling in. At 27, he is expected to be the defensive leader but his vulnerabilities are greatly exposed whenever Sergio Ramos misses out next to him.

1. Alvaro Morata

Alvaro Morata graduated from the Real Madrid academy to break into the senior team. He spent two seasons on loan to Juventus to develop his game. He impressed for them and returned with the hopes of starting.

Unfortunately, he had no place over Karim Benzema and moved on to Chelsea for £57m. The Spaniard flopped in his first season and was sold off for the same amount to Atletico Madrid in the next. After another underwhelming stint at Atletico, Juventus signed him again on loan with an option to buy at £45m. That is absolutely astounding to hear, given how little he has proven upfront.

Morata is definitely one of the most overrated players in world football and in Real Madrid’s history.
