Jesus Vallejo, a centre back, has officially signed a season-long loan with Granada, according to Real Madrid

Vallejo, who joined Real Madrid in 2015, had a fantastic loan with Granada in the second half of the 2020–21 campaign before committing for an additional year. He was then enthusiastically welcomed back to the Santiago Bernabeu.

He has never, however, served as Madrid’s primary backup option. In all competitions, Vallejo played just eight games for a total of 353 minutes in 2021–2022, and last season, he further slipped down the pecking order.

In just four appearances for a combined 88 minutes this season, Carlo Ancelotti reportedly told the 26-year-old Vallejo that he no longer had a future at the team.

Initial rumours said that Vallejo intended to remain at the Bernabeu for the duration of this campaign, but Real Madrid has since announced that he will be returning to Granada on a 12-month loan. Vallejo has made just 31 appearances for Real Madrid since joining the team in 2015; he has never made more than 12 appearances in a single season.

There are already four centre backs available to Ancelotti. Last year, Eder Militao, David Alaba, and Antonio Rudiger split the starting roles, with Nacho Fernandez, the new club captain, serving as a capable backup. Alvaro Odriozola, another auxiliary defender, is anticipated to quit the team this summer as well after making only six appearances on his own last year.
