Real Madrid faces a huge blow as their first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois suffered a new injury setback. He was diagnosed with an ACL tear to his left knee and he remained out for the entire season.

There were some hopes that Courtois would make his comeback after the international break. According to Diario AS, the Belgian has torn the meniscus in his other knee during training.

The Los Blancos shot-stopper made his way out of training in tears. As per reports, he would be out for two more months. It means, he may also miss out Euro 2024.

Andriy Lunin will remain Real Madrid’s 1st choice in goal for the rest of the season. The Ukrainian has kept 8 out of 17 clean sheets in the league. He was instrumental against RB Leipzig in the 1st leg of the round of 16.

Real Madrid will now face Manchester City in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. Lunin also makes a strong case to be Real Madrid’s starting keeper next season.

Courtois will now return to action next season and it will be important to see how he gains form after staying away from the ground for a longer period.
