Didier Deschamps Thinks Raphael Varane Does Not Deserve Criticism

Didier Deschamps jumped to Raphael Varane’s defence from criticism.

The defender has been in poor form this season but has still been picked for France’s upcoming friendlies this week.

Deschamps thinks doubts of Varane’s ability is unjustified and should not be drawn from a single performance. The defender was horrid for Real Madrid in their weekend 4-1 defeat to Valencia.

“All players can have a worse game. They are playing every three days. But I know what Raphael is capable of doing,” said the coach of the 2018 World Cup winner.

“In the last game, things went badly and we forget the rest. I look at a longer period. We should also look at the little recovery time there is. That leads to more injuries and less intensity.”

Varane has been at the end of quite a few error, most notably the ones against Manchester City in last season’s Champions League knockout stages. He has been inconsistent at the back but is still regarded as one of the world’s best in his position.

However, Varane will have to steer out of this rough patch if he wants to keep his regular spot for both club and country.

Real Madrid Dealt Huge Blow With Fede Valverde’s Injury

Real Madrid Dealt Huge Blow With Fede Valverde's Injury

Real Madrid have suffered a huge blow to their midfield ranks on Sunday.

Apart from the crushing 4-1 defeat to Valencia, Fede Valverde picked up a fracture and is set to miss quite a few games.

Los Blancos said on Monday, “Following tests carried out on our player, Federico Valverde, by Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a fracture in the posterior tibial bone in his right leg. His recovery will continue to be assessed.”

This means that Valverde will not be joining up with Uruguay’s squad for the international games. He will also likely miss over six games for Real and return towards the end of the year.

Real are in a difficult spot, as evident from their last outing. They sit fourth in the table, four points adrift of leaders, Real Sociedad. Zinedine Zidane already is finding it hard to implement more creativity into his lineup. Isco has not found his form and Martin Odegaard is still adjusting to life at the Bernabeu.

Valverde’s energy and overall effort will be a miss, seeing how the rest are getting on. Luka Modric is in the twilight of his career and Casemiro continues to be inconsistent.

Thibaut Courtois Repents Real Madrid’s Strategy In 4-1 Loss

Thibaut Courtois Repents Real Madrid's Strategy In 4-1 Loss

Thibaut Courtois believes Real Madrid’s offensive strategy let them down against Valencia on Saturday.

Los Blancos let in goals through three penalties, all taken and converted by Carlos Soler. And then, an own goal by Raphael Varane wrapped it up for the Bats.

Courtois said after the loss at Mestalla, “Three penalties against us, the second goal is bad luck… We started well, but sometimes we don’t go up and we fall backwards. The first is a penalty, I stop him (Carlos Soler), I don’t know why he gets to take it again. He puts it in even though I’m close to stopping it.

“At halftime, we motivated ourselves to turn it around but then we suffered two penalties. Marcelo arrives first but Maxi screams louder. Ramos’s hand is bad luck.”

He added: “We are being more offensive, also in pressure and so a goal can happen. From a long ball, you have to have a union like we had after the quarantine, when they barely scored goals.

“Apart from the unlucky goal, there are three penalties, it’s bad luck.”

Real sit fourth in the table with two losses already registered in 8 La Liga games so far.

I Am To Blame – Zinedine Zidane After 4-1 Valencia Defeat

I Am To Blame - Zinedine Zidane After 4-1 Valencia Defeat

Zinedine Zidane took responsibility for Real Madrid’s crumbling defeat to Valencia on Sunday.

Carlos Soler became the first player to score a hat-trick of penalties in a La Liga game in this century.

Raphael Varane scored an own goal which helped Valencia run away winners at Mestall and move up to ninth in the table. Real sit at fourth and four points behind leaders, Real Sociedad.

“Three penalties, an own goal, it’s too much,” said Zidane. “The fault is mine because I am the coach and I have to find the solution. I can’t justify what happened. It’s a bad day, there are no excuses. We must improve defensively.

“I don’t think Valencia have been tactically better than us. The only thing is that we started well and everything changed after the goal. This is difficult to understand. But yes, the maximum responsibility is mine. We must find solutions after the goal they scored.”

Isco started his first game since October 17 but failing to impress creatively. Zidane defended the player, saying, “Isco has tried, he has done well like everyone else. In the end, everyone loses, there is not just one guilty party.”

Real Madrid Sold Sergio Reguilon Due To Spat With Zidane’s Son

Real Madrid Sold Sergio Reguilon Due To Spat With Zidane's Son

Sergio Reguilon was sold by Real Madrid last summer due to a personal dispute with Zinedine Zidane’s son.

According to reports, Luca Zidane and Reguilon did not get along too well in the Real Madrid B team.

Reguilon went on to establish himself as one of the best young left-backs in Spain last term. He finished out the campaign by winning the Europa League with Sevilla. Unfortunately for him, a simple spat with Zidane’s son meant that he no longer a place in his squad.

Tottenham Hotspur jumped at the opportunity to sign him for €30m with a buy-back clause worth €45m inserted by Real. Manchester United were also interested in him but could not agree to Real’s terms.

El Confidencial states that both Reguilon and Luca were teammates who are no longer at the club. Luca moved on to Rayo Vallecano and Reguilon to the Premier League. If this was not the direct reason behind the latter’s departure, perhaps the presence of Ferland Mendy and Marcelo was.

Zidane already has two quality options at Reguilon’s position and he needed to offload a number of players to balance Real’s books. The Galacticos spent the summer bidding farewell to a host of their own but bringing in no one. Reguilon just happened to be part of the mass exodus.

Eden Hazard Mentally Fit And Ready To Bounce Back For Real – Zinedine Zidane

Eden Hazard Mentally Fit And Ready To Bounce Back For Real - Zinedine Zidane

Zinedine Zidane stated that Eden Hazard is fine despite testing positive for COVID-19.

Both Hazard and Casemiro will go undergo a quarantine period before they can return for training with the team again.

This comes just a week after the Belgian made his return from injury. That has been a recurring tale for him ever since he came to Madrid on a record transfer.

“They’re good, even if they’re not happy about what has happened,” Zidane told the media. “Emotionally and physically, they’re good. I’ve sent them a message and I’ll speak with them again later.”

Zidane’s faith in the 29-year-old has not wavered, clearly. When pressed on Hazard’s mental state following such long absences with injury, Zidane clarified that all was well.

“He is strong and knows that this is a tricky moment, but he is good mentally,” the coach said.

It took Hazard over a year to collect his second goal for Real Madrid when he struck the back of the net against Huesca last month. He also featured in Champions League ties against Gladbach and Inter Milan before getting sidelined once again.

Of course, Hazard is at the age where he will have to lean on his experience to regain his old form. He has had a lengthy period to adjust to life in Spain. The Galacticos faithful will only expect the best, once he is back.

Vinicius Junior Chalks Off Benzema Incident As Regular Criticism

Vinicius Junior Chalks Off Benzema Incident As Regular Criticism

Vinicius Junior is open to criticism but is not entirely bothered by it.

The Brazilian says he welcomes it and it is only expected when one plays for Real Madrid.

He has struggled to establish himself at the Bernabeu after his arrival from Flamengo in 2018. Part of it has been due to heavy competition in his position from Eden Hazard, Rodrygo Goes, Marco Asensio and several others.

“I always think about those who want the best for me – family, people at the club, colleagues like Marcelo and Casemiro, the type who put me on the right path,” he told YouTube channel Desimpedidos.

“It is all part of being a member of the biggest club in the world. When we lose they talk about us, and when we win it is something else.”

Vinicius made headlines when Karim Benzema spoke negatively about him, as recorded on a tunnel camera. When asked about his relationship with the Frenchman, Vinicius said, “I have a good relationship with Benzema. Also Lucas Vazquez. I talk a lot with them off the field. There’s also [Luka] Modric, who I sit with at lunchtime.”

Isco Told To Find A New Club And Juventus Not Interested

Isco Told To Find A New Club And Juventus Not Interested

According to Don Balon, Real Madrid are trying to get rid of Isco by all means.

Just like Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez, the Spaniard had dropped down the pecking order a long time ago.

Zinedine Zidane clearly does not fancy him anymore and is willing to see the back of him this January. Real already bid farewell to a host of players in the summer in an attempt to raise funds during these difficult financial times.

Isco is being forced out and the only team he would like to go to is Juventus. The Serie A champions are notorious for signing former stars and giving them a new lease of life. Juve’s frontline is also being led by former Real ace, Cristiano Ronaldo who is reportedly against reuniting with Isco.

Don Balon understands that the Portuguese has told Juve’s board to stay away from Isco since he is not the most efficient creator. Isco’s wages would also be significant in a midfield that already has a host of players fighting for starting roles.

The extent of truth behind these reports are questionable. But it would be surprise if Juventus added more to their midfield. Andrea Pirlo has a host of players to pick from and might need to get rid of someone to add anybody.

Dani Carvajal In Line To Receive A Four-Year Extension

0
Top 5 Worst Real Madrid Players This Season

Zinedine Zidane is willing to begin contract talks with Dani Carvajal, as per reports.

The Real Madrid academy product remains an important part of the squad since his introduction in 2013.

Carvajal returned from his loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen to snag a starting berth under Carlo Ancelotti. He is still an important part of the team and closing in on his contract with Real.

The 28-year-old is currently sidelined with an injury but he is expected to be back for the 2020/21 season. His deal is set to expire in 2022. Zidane obviously would like to secure his future further than that. Lucas Vazquez has done adequately in his absence but Carvajal is the starting right-back.

According to Marca, Real Madrid have begun negotiations with the Spaniard’s representatives. A four-year contract is in being thrown into the works which will see Carvajal receive a significant pay hike.

Alvaro Odriozola has also face injury issues of his own but is well below the pecking order under Zidane. Real is also looking at extending the contract of Sergio Ramos who has demanded a two-year deal.

The Galacticos are holding strong on their policy of handing any player over thirty a one-year deal. Ramos, at 34, remains the most dominant figure in their backline and the team captain.

David Alaba’s Agent In Talks With Real Madrid Over A Free Move

David Alaba's Agent In Talks With Real Madrid Over A Free Move

Real Madrid have been contacted by David Alaba’s agent over a free move next summer.

Bayern Munich have been so far unable to sign the Austrian to a new deal and a move away seems imminent now.

According to Diario AS, Alaba would love to play for one of the big guns in Spain, either Real Madrid or Barcelona. The 28-year-old expected to become one of Bayern’s highest earners but the third offer was still not up to his demands.

Naturally, he rejected all advances from the Bavarians. His agent, Pini Zahavi has reportedly made contact with Real Madrid, announcing his availability. Real and Barcelona both would be interested in the defender, given the reputation he boasts of.

Alaba is undoubtedly one of the best in his position in world football. He has even adapted to a centre-back role under Hansi Flick at Bayern Munich recently, winning the treble last season.

Real Madrid already have significant cover at left-back with Marcelo and Ferland Mendy. But the former is 32 now and has been dropped to a backup role for Mendy. Zinedine Zidane might not mind a quality addition like Alaba, given how his defence is strongly dictated by Sergio Ramos.
