Nacho Fernandez has agreed to a one-year contract extension with Real Madrid.

The veteran defender has made 44 appearances in Carlo Ancelotti’s side last season in all competitions.

He has signed a one-year contract extension with Los Blancos and has been a loyal servant to the club.

Nacho will be the club captain next season after the departure of Karim Benzema.

“I walk alongside my family and the club. You always receive offers from other clubs but I’ve decided to stay for another year and I’m happy with that decision. I am looking forward to staying in Real Madrid,” said Nacho.

The 33-year-old defender has won three La Liga titles, five UEFA Champions Leagues and two Copa del Reys.

He joined the club’s youth academy at the age of 11 and went on to make 319 appearances for Los Blancos.

Nacho is currently the fourth-choice centre-back, behind Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba in the pecking order.
