Real Madrid are dissatisfied with FIFA’s decision to ignore their players at yesterday’s awards

Last year, Los Blancos claimed the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Spanish Super Cup, Champions League, and La Liga. However, at the event last night in Paris, none of their players took home any solo honours. Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior didn’t receive the praise they deserved for their outstanding efforts, according to Madrid.

The French attacker took home the Ballon d’Or in October of last year, but at the Best FIFA Awards, he came in third behind Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi. Despite making a significant impact on Madrid’s triumph last season, Vinicius ended outside the top ten.

Additionally, the Brazilian was left off of the FIFA FIFPRO World XI. However, the star-studded lineup also included Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, and Thibaut Courtois. Messi, Mbappe, and Erling Braut Haaland of Manchester City rounded out the roster’s attacking choices. The World Cup champion goalie for Argentina beat out Courtois for the FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year honour.

Madrid was perplexed by the choice as well because they feel the World Cup should not have been sufficient to decide the winners. In addition, Argentinean Lionel Scaloni won the Best FIFA Men’s Coach honour over manager Carlo Ancelotti. Madrid’s players missed the awards ceremony because they were busy practising for Thursday’s El Clasico against Barcelona.

They want to win the Copa del Rey, so winning the opening match will help. Madrid is seven points behind Barcelona in La Liga, but they are confident that they can win it back. With a 5-2 victory over Liverpool in the first leg of their last-16 match, they are all but assured a place in the Champions League quarterfinals.
