David Alaba could join Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer.

German giants Bayern Munich are keen to extend the contract of their star defender David Alaba where he won nine Bundesliga titles and two Champions League trophies.

The Austrian defender has expressed his desire to play for Real Madrid where he could seek a fresh challenge.

Real Madrid are said to have offered a four or five-year contract in order to replace Sergio Ramos whose future remains uncertain with the Galacticos.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has reported that Real Madrid are leading the race for the 28-year old’s signature but Liverpool are also one of the five clubs who have contacted the player’s agent.

Flick said of his defender in November: “I’m honestly not happy that we have to deal with this issue this week, when we’re facing two difficult away games to Salzburg and Dortmund.

“I would be happy if David stays at Bayern beyond this season. He is a top player and a really great person.

“He embodies certain values, is popular with the club and supporters.

“I have no doubts that he will continue to perform at peak performance and give everything.”
