Real Madrid suffer a huge blow as Marco Asensio picks up an injury

Real Madrid have suffered an injury setback following their Super Cup victory against Athletic Club.

Los Blancos won their 12th Spanish Super Cup with a 2-0 final victory over the Lions, with goals from Karim Benzema and Luka Modric. However, there was some bad news in the run-up to the final, with Marco Asensio injuring himself.

This absence comes at the worst possible time for the Real Madrid player, who had just broken into Carlo Ancelotti’s starting XI on a regular basis, demonstrating the promise that was evident upon his arrival in the Spanish capital.

Asensio did not make the final, and it has now been announced that he will be sidelined for the next three weeks due to injury.

Scans revealed a tiny rupture in a muscle in the Spain international’s right leg, and he might be out for up to three weeks.

The Spaniard had scored seven goals in 23 games this term, and whilst he could be back in theory for the clash against Granada on February 6, Los Merengues will take no risks whatsoever with the PSG tie in the Champions League beginning on February 15.

That fixture is just under a month from now, but Rodrygo and Asensio have jostled for position throughout this season.
