Rodrygo could be dropped from the Real Madrid starting XI if Mbappe joins the club this summer

There has been a lot of discussion about Real Madrid’s desire to sign Kylian Mbappe over the past few weeks

Since it was reported that Paris Saint-Germain had placed the 24-year-old on their transfer list as a result of his decision not to sign a new deal, this has increased during the past 48 hours.

When his current contract with PSG expires in the summer of 2019, Mbappe will be free to depart, and Real Madrid has been considering signing him at that time. However, in light of these findings, their intentions might be altered.

Mbappe would surely start for Carlo Ancelotti in the upcoming campaign if he were to sign today. According to Sport, despite his outstanding accomplishments during the 2022–23 season, Rodrygo will be forced to leave the team.

During the preseason, Ancelotti has been testing a 4-4-2 formation that would have Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo play as central forwards rather than wingers. Vinicius won’t be dropped because he is regarded as Real Madrid’s most essential player, thus Mbappe would likely take over in his position.

If Mbappe signs this summer, however, Ancelotti may decide to revert to his tried-and-true 4-3-3, in which case Rodrygo would go to the right wing. Real Madrid’s striking depth for the upcoming season would pose a real threat to clubs in Spain and throughout Europe even if the 22-year-old doesn’t perform as expected and is benched.
