Bayern Munich are trying to renew Alphonso Davies' contract amid Real Madrid links

Several weeks have passed since the summer transfer market closed, and Real Madrid is already making preparations for the upcoming season

Despite having already signed Fran Garcia earlier this year, the Merengues are eager to bolster the left-back position next summer. It is because the club is open to the notion of unloading Ferland Mendy next summer, especially given that his contract expires in 2025, and his fitness and form have caused irritation inside the organisation.

And the Bayern Munich speedster Alphonso Davies has already been identified as a viable option for the left-back position. Real Madrid has been following Davies for a while, and it’s believed that hiring manager Juni Calafat is a fan. Furthermore, Los Blancos believe that the upcoming summer transfer window is the ideal opportunity to make a move for the Canadian left-back because Davies’ Bayern Munich contract expires in 2025.

For his part, Davies is content playing for the Bavarian giants, but he is rumoured to be considering leaving after this season. However, Bayern is anxious to keep Davies and is eager to offer him a new deal to secure his future at the Allianz Arena. The German Bundesliga winners want to keep the left-back, who is only 22 years old, on staff for a very long period.

Contract negotiations between Bayern Munich and Davies’ agent, Nick Houseu, were started in the past, but they are now on hold because ex-director Hasan Salihamidzic was fired at the conclusion of the 2022–23 season. The newly installed administration wants to resume negotiations with Houseu for a new contract for Davies under the direction of technical director Marco Neppe.

The Bavarians will need to reassure Davies’ camp on the club’s sporting project and economic plan, given the recent aura of uncertainty at the club, so the negotiations are unlikely to be simple. Real Madrid, meantime, is still keeping an eye on the situation and waiting to seize the initiative. Who wins the competition for Davies’ services is yet to be determined.
