Real Madrid aim to re-sign Man United defender Raphael Varane this January

Real Madrid’s pursuit of Raphael Varane intensifies amid defensive crisis

Real Madrid is supposedly interested in reuniting with Manchester United’s seasoned defender Raphael Varane in January. Following an awful knee injury to David Alaba, the Spanish giants are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements.

Falk has now confirmed the same story on his X account, he posted: “After the injury of David Alaba, Real Madrid is interested in Raphaël Varane (30).”

Varane, who began the season on the outside of the Red Devils’ starting lineup, has unexpectedly emerged as a key due to a run of injuries. Erik ten Hag, manager of Manchester United, had previously dropped the Frenchman, judging him ineffective in the right centre-back position.

Varane’s recent comeback, especially his outstanding performance against Liverpool, proved his world-class ability, with an incredible 15 clearances and three shots blocked.

Despite an injury problem that has sidelined important defenders like Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Lisandro Martinez, United continue to fight to keep Varane.

Real Madrid’s desires of signing Varane for about €20 million confront a tough challenge as the January transfer window closes. United are unlikely to take on any offers for Varane, recognizing his crucial position and their defensive crisis.

Varane’s current contract will expire at the end of the season, although United has the option to extend it for another year. Varane’s future is made more difficult by the potential of a free move next summer.

As the world of football watches the drama unfold, Real Madrid may need to take a look at alternative defensive options in January to address their pressing demands.
