The search for a suitable substitute for Thibaut Courtois has begun as Real Madrid deals with an unexpected and unfortunate injury blow to their star custodian
The Belgian custodian is anticipated to miss a significant amount of the upcoming season, hence a number of names have been mentioned to stand in for Courtois.
Leeds’ Illan Meslier is one of the most recent additions to this expanding list of contenders. Based on two profiles, Real Madrid has chosen a small group of players. The criteria for seasoned and successful players include David de Gea and Bono, while Meslier, the most recent choice under consideration, is an illustration of a younger and “economic” profile.
Meslier, who was essential in Leeds United’s rise to the Premier League a few years ago, has established himself as a starter. Even though he is only 23, the 23-year-old has a tonne of experience playing in England and has exceptional distribution skills, all of which may be very helpful to Los Blancos when playing out from the back.
Meslier’s stint at Leeds has been turbulent, though, as he first came out of the gate extremely strong before starting to leak goals excessively as a result of the English team’s sporting disorder, which ultimately caused their relegation from the Premier League last season. Meslier shares many of the same physical characteristics as the Belgian shot-stopper. Meslier can perform better in the air than strikers because of his unusual height of 1’97m, which allows him to reach or deflect balls with ease.
Additionally, Meslier is known for being an ardent keeper with a spirit of valour akin to Courtois. However, his propensity for taking chances has also cost him side points in the past. The market price of Mesilier is €20 million, and it is unclear whether Real Madrid will pursue signing Bono from Sevilla instead of acting on their interest in the Frenchman.
