Karim Benzema has been named France’s best player of 2021.

After a remarkable year in which he scored 47 goals, ‘France Football’ has picked the Real Madrid striker for the honour. He scored 38 goals for the Whites (30 in LaLiga, seven in the Champions League and one in the Spanish Super Cup). Since joining the club, this is the Frenchman’s finest haul in a calendar year. This is Benzema’s fourth time winning this accolade, having previously won it in 2011, 2012, and 2014.

This season, Karim Benzema has outperformed every other French footballer. He was voted the greatest French player playing overseas by France’s National Union of Professional Footballers, beating out Hugo Lloris, N’Golo Kante, Ousmane Dembele, Real Madrid colleague Ferland Mendy, and everyone else (UNFP).

The No.9 is pleased to have been recognised for his season, which might yet conclude with Real Madrid winning LaLiga Santander, and he has scored 29 goals this season.

“I’m very honoured to have received this trophy for being the best French footballer abroad,” Benzema said on social media. “Thank you to all of the players who voted for me.

He scored nine more goals for France, and his strike in the final of the Nations League, which his side won, deserves special notice. At the start of 2022, the Madrid striker has already scored three goals in three games. His most recent goal came in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Barcelona, for which he was awarded MVP.
