Real Madrid not looking to sell Aurelien Tchouameni amid Liverpool interest

Real Madrid’s season got off to an upbeat start as the Merengues defeated Athletic Club by a score of 2-0

Rodrygo and Jude Bellingham put their names on the scoresheet, but Aurilien Tchouameni’s performance—who had already shown hints of his comeback during the preseason tour of the US—was one of the most encouraging takeaways for Los Blancos.

And according to David Ornstein, Tchouameni has long been admired by a number of premier teams, including Liverpool.

Although the midfielder is eager to establish himself at the Spanish capital club, Real Madrid sees him as an important element of their squad and does not consider selling him. After missing out on Moises Caicedo and Romeu Lavia, rumours earlier in the day circulated that the Merseyside giants were considering a move for the French defensive midfielder.

Madrid values Tchouameni, though, as seen by the club’s €100 million investment in him during the previous campaign. Liverpool had already tried to sign the 23-year-old before Real Madrid acquired Tchouameni from Monaco, so their interest in him is nothing new. Tchouameni plans to remain with Los Blancos despite previously rejecting their offer, and the team is eager to hold on to the incredibly gifted midfielder.

Given that there isn’t another player in the squad with a comparable profile, the Merengues’ decision to keep Tchouameni does not seem out of the blue. In his debut season in Madrid, Tchouameni’s performance varied as he played his first game outside of France. His contributions and value to the squad, though, are increasing daily as he settles in and adjusts to its dynamics.
