As time goes on, rumours about Kylian Mbappe’s future intensify as the player and PSG remain at an impasse, with Real Madrid keeping a careful eye on events from the sidelines

The 24-year-old is adamant that he doesn’t want to extend his deal through 2024 but still wants to sign a new deal with the team this summer. The 2018 FIFA World Cup champion must depart this summer or sign a new deal, according to PSG, who are adamant that they will not allow him to leave on a free transfer the following year.

Now that the Ligue 1 winners are placing intense pressure on Mbappe to depart immediately, writer Ramon Alvarez is reporting, which will help Real Madrid in their chase of the French striker.

According to the journalist’s story, Mbappe has already rejected three new contract offers from PSG, and as a result, the club wants to get rid of him as soon as possible.

In reality, Les Parisiens want the former AS Monaco star to leave the club by next week since they do not want him to participate in preseason training with the rest of the team. If Mbappe does leave the club, PSG also thinks he’ll be going to Real Madrid.

They are therefore pressuring the 24-year-old to agree to their choice and depart. The attacker’s most recent interview, in which he seemed to criticise PSG, did not sit well with all of his teammates or the club’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi. As a result, his departure could gain momentum in the following days, with Real Madrid expected to take advantage of this and secure their top target.

Arda Guler, a young phenom who formerly played for Fenerbahce, has been signed by Real Madrid to a multi-year contract

Numerous elite European clubs have been attempting to lure the 18-year-old away from the Sarku Saracoglu Stadium, which has sparked wild speculation about the young man’s future.

However, Los Blancos have won the race to recruit the Turkish prodigy, and he will now be a part of Madrid’s ever-expanding group of extraordinarily gifted young people. Since making his senior debut for Fenerbahce in a Europa League qualifier in August 2021 as a 16-year-old, Guler has emerged as one of the game’s most exciting young prospects.

The Turkish wonder became well-known last season after becoming a first-team regular in the 2021/22 campaign and garnering attention from all over the world for his extraordinary talent. With the Yellow Canaries last season, he was unable to capture the Super Lig, but he did assist them in winning the Turkish Cup, earning him the honour of player of the game. Guler, despite his youth, had a legitimate reason for wearing the number 10 shirt in Istanbul. With six goals and seven assists in 35 competitive games, he was Fenerbahce’s main offensive power.

In a friendly match against the Czech Republic in November 2022, he made his international debut thanks to his outstanding club play. He has risen to become a full-time member of the Crescent-Stars after making his debut for Turkey at the beginning of last season. He has four caps and one goal. Guler became the country’s youngest-ever scorer in June 2023 when he scored against Wales in a European Championship qualifying match.

And while Barcelona and Fenerbahce are furious about the youngster, Madrid must be happy to have him join their ranks, as confirmed by the Turkish club’s president Ali Koc on Wednesday. Despite Koc’s efforts to broker a deal with the Blaugrana, it appears that Guler had rejected the Camp Nou team and had instead chosen to commit his future to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid has been widely linked with a bid for Kylian Mbappe in recent weeks

It comes after the French international announced his intention to quit PSG as a free agent next summer.

Mbappe agreed to a two-year contract extension with the option of a third in 2022. He has declared, however, that he has no intention of exercising his option, which means he is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a new club in January.

Real Madrid is willing to wait until then to come to an agreement that would allow Mbappe to join on a free transfer the following summer. PSG, though, is adamant that they won’t give up their prized possession, and their Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi told Le Parisien (via Fabrizio Romano) that if Mbappe doesn’t agree to a new contract by the end of the summer, they will consider selling him.

“Kylian Mbappe needs to make a decision either in a week or two. Just this much. The door is open if he chooses not to consent to a new contract. No player, not even me, is larger than the club. It’s really obvious.

Real Madrid had been quite content to hold off on signing Mbappe until the next season. However, given that PSG has shown a desire to sell him this summer, it’s possible that they may have to make a big investment to acquire him.

10 Worst Real Madrid Signings Ever!

Who are the 10 worst Real Madrid signings ever? Which Real Madrid players have been the worst signings? Who are the 10 worst Real Madrid signings ever?

Here we will look at who are the 10 Worst Real Madrid signings ever. The price of the player, their contribution to the team, and their overall play will contribute to their ranking on this list.

There have been a lot of good signings that Real Madrid has made but they have also signed some real flops! Recently Real Madrid have made some pretty bad purchases- Antoine Griezmann and Arturo Vidal come to mind. So here we will look at who the worst Real Madrid signings ever are. Let’s find out the Worst Real Madrid signings!

Top 10 Worst Real Madrid Signings

So, here are the 10 Worst Real Madrid signings ever –

10. Walter Samuel

Worst Real Madrid Players Of All Time Walter Samuel

Fabio Capello wanted a dominant centre-half and he sanctioned a €25m deal to go out and sign Walter Samuel. Early on, he looked like an excellent signing but pretty soon the glamour faded. He looked nothing like the performances he put up for AS Roma which earned him the nickname, “The Wall”.

“The fact that he did not make a name for himself at Real Madrid still surprises me,” Capello admitted. “Perhaps it was the wrong time.”

9. Pedro Leon

Jose Mourinho was never impressed by Pedro Leon’s work ethic and so, never really could give him a chance to shine. He refused to give the €10m signing a chance and was constantly questioned about it.

“I felt humiliated at Madrid,” Pedro Leon said 2011. “I am not aware of doing anything wrong. I did all I could, I was professional, I worked hard.”

Mourinho replied to that statement as he said, “You talk of Pedro Leon as if he is Zidane or Maradona or Di Stefano. Last year he was playing for Getafe! I don’t have to justify his absence.”

8. Kaka

A post shared by Kaká (@kaka)

It is heartbreaking to put Kaka’s name here but at a record-breaking deal, he does belong here. One of football’s greatest mysteries, Kaka’s career was destined for greatness and stardom at the greatest heights. Looking back, one can easily say that he fell short of such lofty expectations and it all came crashing down at Real.

One can understand why the Galacticos broke their transfer record to sign him. At 27, he was unstoppable at AC Milan, winning the Balon d’Or the season prior. After he arrived at Madrid, it all turned upside down. Riddled with injuries and the competiting star power of Cristiano Ronaldo up front meant Kaka could never hit his best stride. He later admitted, “I lost the joy of playing football a bit [in Madrid].”

7. Theo Hernandez

It took a lot of effort to prize Theo Hernandez out of Atletico Madrid but in the end, it was not worth it. He could replace Marcelo at left-back or even challenge for the position. 13 league appearances later, he was bid farwell. First he joined Real Sociedad on loan and then permanently with AC Milan.

6. Asier Illaramendi

A post shared by Asier Illarramendi (@illarra4)

Asier Illaramendi was snapping up plenty of headlines in Spain playing for Real Sociedad. He clearly was an exciting defensive enforcer in midfield that caught Carlo Ancelotti’s eye. As a part of Real Madrid’s 2013 spending spree, Illaramendi arrived at Santiago Bernabeu witha price tag of €32 million.

Just two years later, he had to be sold back to Sociedad after two many inconsistent displays under the Italian boss.

5. Elvir Baljic

€26 million in 1999 was a LOT of money! I mean a lot, A LOT! Why on God’s name did John Toshack think the Bosnian was of Real Madrid’s level, no one knows.

The Galacticos dished out the heavy sum to sign Elvir Baljic from Fenerbahce and instantly came to regret it. A knee injury did not help the forward but when fit, he looked like a second division starter at best. After just one season, everyone could tell where he belongs and was sent back on loan to the Turkish outfit. He later mused, “It doesn’t hurt me to see media listing me among Real’s biggest flops; I don’t see myself that way.”

4. Jonathan Woodgate

Worst Real Madrid Signings Of All Time

Jonathan Woodgate is easily one of the worst players Real Madrid ever signed. He was unfortunate to get injured in his debut season, waiting an entire year to make his first appearance. When he did begin his Real Madrid career, it got off to a disastrous start. A red card and an own goal against Athletic Bilbao pretty much summed up the extent of his stay at Santiago Bernabeu.

3. Nuri Sahin

Nuri Sahin Was One Of Real Madrid's Worst Transfers

Nuri Sahin was one of the world’s best midfield talents at the start of the last decade. At just 17, he made his debut for the Turkish national team. He was breaking out in Jurgen Klopp’s young and ruthless Borussia Dortmund side which also fielded stars like Robert Lewandowski, Marco Reus and Mario Gotze.

Real Madrid quickly snapped him up at €10 million believing he could be exactly what Toni Kroos turned out to be. Unfortunately, through several injuries and a mismatch with Jose Mourinho’s tactics, Sahin only ever made 4 La Liga appearances for Los Blancos. Following two loan spells overseas, he was sent back to Dortmund.

2. Antonio Cassano

Players Who Failed At Real Madrid - Cassano

Antonio Cassano is a legend in Italy with 39 caps for his country and his playing years spread around several Serie A clubs. When he was breaking out as a youngster at AS Roma, many viewed him as the playmaker who would tussle with the world’s very best.

However, with his off-the-pitch antics and a fallout with then-manager, Fabio Capello meant his Real Madrid career was doomed to fail. A decision was made to ship him back to Italy after just one season as his attitude was heavily criticised by club president, Ramon Calderon at the time.

1. Royston Drenthe

Horrible Real Madrid Signings

Royston Drenthe’s name has popped up as one of the football’s biggest flops for years now. And that too for good reason. Blessed with lightning speed along with the touch similar to that of Ronaldinho, the world was at Drenthe’s feet when he was at Feyenoord.

Numerous outlets were behind him but it was Real Madrid who won the race in 2007. He cost the club €14 million but never provided a return on that hefty investment. His attitude in training was never tip-top and after several incidents, he could hardly break into the first team. He was even sent out on loan spells to Hercules and Everton to reassess his career but none of it helped.

After Real, he joined Alania Vladikavkaz upon the expiration of his contract in 2012. Now 32, he’s playing for Kozakken Boys in the third tier of Dutch football.

Harry Kane is reportedly looking for a move this summer.

The England captain wants a move out of Tottenham after another trophyless season with the North London club.

Tottenham has slapped £100m price tag on their club captain who has just one year left on his contract.

Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester United are some of the elite clubs interested in the 29-year-old striker.

Kane’s club teammate Pedro Porro who arrived in the January transfer window claims Kane can fit play for any team in world football.

“Of course. I wouldn’t doubt it for a second. Very few forwards offer the work and defensive commitment that Harry gives [a lot], apart from his enormous quality and his scoring. He is a ‘crack’.

“I have been in the team for a short time but long enough to realise how close he is with his teammates. From what I have spoken with him and what I have seen, I can say that he is also very great off the pitch.”

New recruit Fran Garcia going to be Carlo Ancelotti’s go to player for Real Madrid next season

New signee Next season, Fran Garcia will be Real Madrid’s first-choice left-back

The 23-year-old, who joined Real Madrid in 2013, was brought back in June, becoming the club’s first signing of the summer.

The teenage full-back was anticipated to be the understudy, but after Ferland Mendy’s poor performance, he is now Carlo Ancelotti’s first choice. Garcia’s selection as the first choice follows his outstanding season at Rayo Vallecano in 2022/23. Furthermore, Mendy’s future is unknown following his poor performance last season.

While Real Madrid wants to sell him, Ancelotti is opposed to the idea. The Italian had to rely heavily on Eduardo Camavinga’s adaptability, and while the Frenchman delivered a steady performance, he does not want to stay in the position, and neither does the club. Mendy, for his part, is eager to stay and compete for a spot in the first team. If it is accomplished, he will seek to extend his stay because his current contract expires in 2025.

Ancelotti would want choices in any given situation, and Garcia’s purchase is merely the frosting on the cake. At the moment, much will be determined by how the youthful full-back performs on the pre-season tour. It will set the tone for how things will go for him once the campaign gets underway.

Mendy will have something to fight for now that Garcia has arrived. Last season, he believed he was the unbeatable choice, but if Garcia can reproduce his Rayo Vallecano form, Mendy’s long-term position will be jeopardised.

Luis Enrique has started compiling a list of requests for the Parisian hierarchy as he moves closer to reaching an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain

Greater clarity will be seen in the club’s transfer market plan once PSG can finalise the facts of Christophe Galtier’s exit and officially announce Enrique’s arrival to the public. However, some information has already surfaced.

SPORT reports that Enrique has reportedly requested the board of his prospective future club to recruit Real Madrid attacking prodigy Rodrygo.

The former Barcelona manager has been in Paris for two days working to assess the needs of the team and the problem with Kylian Mbappe’s uncertain future. And one of the first things he asks of him is that they go after Rodrygo. According to the report, Enrique, who was in negotiations to be hired by Chelsea, approached the English team with a similar request and listed Rodrygo’s presence as one of the prerequisites for his hiring.

Real Madrid sent a note stating that Rodrygo was not for sale and that they would not be opening discussions. The player’s contract with the Royal Whites expires in 2025, but it is believed that a long-term renewal is already in place. Rodrygo asserted that he was prepared to accept responsibility and the weight that coming into possession of the iconic number 11 jersey number entailed. It is anticipated that he will play an even bigger role up front now that Benzema has left.

Along with the player’s wish to remain at Merengues, Real Madrid previously ruled out the possibility of working on a transfer deal with PSG, a club with which they have already experienced difficulties in negotiations. Real Madrid does not consider the possibility of include Rodrygo in the transaction, despite their desire in signing Kylian Mbappe from PSG. Rodrygo continues to be one of the cornerstones of Florentino Perez’s ambitions for the present and the future.

Odriozola waiting for Real Sociedad to bid for him despite interest from Juventus

Alvaro Odriozola, a defender for Real Madrid, is awaiting a summer approach from Real Sociedad despite interest from teams like Juventus and Athletic Club

This assertion is made by Mundo Deportivo, who claim that despite La Real’s lack of interest in investing significantly in his signing, Odriozola is still hopeful for a transfer to Sociedad to occur this summer.

Odriozola rose through the ranks at Real Sociedad and gained experience with San Sebastian’s first squad before being snatched up by Real Madrid for €32 million in 2018.

Although the Spaniard had loan periods abroad at Bayern Munich and Fiorentina, nothing ever quite clicked for him at the Santiago Bernabeu. Odriozola played just six times for Los Blancos last season, and it is obvious that Carlo Ancelotti does not have any ambitions for him. And because his contract expires in the summer of 2019, Real Madrid is eager to unload him this year.

As said before, Athletic Club and Juventus are both interested, while Sociedad has also expressed some interest. Odriozola, however, is waiting for them in the hopes that they will make an approach since he wants to sign for his previous team. Real Madrid is trying to at least partially recoup the cost of purchasing Odriozola. As previously said, Sociedad does not want to make a significant investment in him. They already have a few right-back options, so they do not view him as a crucial addition.

They would only contemplate signing the right-back if he were to arrive for a low price or even for free, something that Real Madrid are unlikely to permit. Because the player simply wants to return to Sociedad and is waiting for movement while on vacation in the Bahamas, it complicates the transfer.

Real Madrid prioritize the signing of Arda Güler over PSG’s Kylian Mbappe

Real Madrid prioritize the signing of Arda Güler over PSG's Kylian Mbappe

This summer, Real Madrid is considering a deal for Fenerbahce playmaker Arda Güler

According to rumours, Los Blancos are reportedly interested in signing the young Turkish player this offseason.

Güler was able to establish himself as a dependable player in Fenerbahce’s first squad throughout the previous season. In 35 appearances for the Turkish club last season, the gifted teenager racked up six goals and seven assists.

The 18-year-old, who averaged 1.7 shots, 2.0 crucial passes, and 2.0 dribbles per game in the Turkish Super Lig, was a reliable player in the final third. In league football, he completed 85% of his passes on attempt, making him accurate even while passing the ball into the opponent’s half (data from whoscored). In the summer of 2025, his current contract at Fenerbahce is scheduled to expire. So, if Los Blancos want to hire the talented playmaker before the new season, they’ll have to provide a strong offer.

Güler can make room for himself so that he can land a few strikes. He possesses the vision to create a few potential final third opportunities for those around him. The Turkish star can dribble the ball well and doesn’t hand the ball over carelessly in the half of the opponent. He is primarily an offensive midfielder, but if necessary, he can also play on the right side as a wide player or as a box-to-box midfielder.

Güler is already talented enough to occasionally join Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid team. He has the chance to break out in European football at age 18, therefore Los Blancos would be wise to try and entice him to the Spanish capital this summer. Güler, though, is still fairly undeveloped and will require some time to adapt to life at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Even yet, hiring someone with his potential has advantages that outweigh disadvantages. In conclusion, Ancelotti should concentrate on signing Güler before the transfer window closes.

New challenge for Jude not an easy one

Jude Bellingham is officially a Real Madrid player. The Spanish giants made a fast move on the young England international amid rising interest from Premier League clubs and this move, when fully paid for, will rank as one of the most expensive transfers in history. To acquire the services of the youngster, Real Madrid paid Borussia Dortmund an initial fee of £88.5m and the potential add-ons will take the amount to £115m. This deal will definitely make Bellingham the most expensive English player, should it rise to £115m. For both clubs, this looks like good business; the worth of the youngster, a gain for Real Madrid while Borussia Dortmund make a massive profit on the player they got from his boyhood club, Birmingham City FC. This all is on the backdrop of the player being just 19 years old, and already an established England international. Bellingham presents all that is ambitious about Real Madrid’s future and after signing a six-year contract, he has the chance to make a name at one of the world’s football powerhouses.

Fitting in

The big question however, is how does Bellingham fit into the Real Madrid squad? This question comes on the back of one of Real Madrid’s biggest transfer flops – Eden Hazard – the big money signing from Chelsea, who went on to be a shell of the player they signed. There can only be one explanation for Real Madrid’s transfer activity. After missing the Champions League and La Liga, they want to get the best player to challenge for such honors and Bellingham fits the bill. Betting on Real Madrid, with such players in their squad also means you can maximize your profits with Wincomparator’s football straight win odds. A key player as Dortmund narrowly missed out on the Bundesliga title, Bellingham will have to fight for his place at the Santiago Bernabeu, his quality notwithstanding. In his positions on the field, Real Madrid have serious pedigree, and the youngster may just have to make-do with serious competition.

Talented youngsters

There is a wide range of talented and young midfielders at Real Madrid, who have formed a perfect blend with the experienced heads at the club, so it will not be a direct entry to the first team for Bellingham. Luka Modric and German Toni Kroos are already counting for massive experience in midfield, with a combined age of 70 years. They remain crucial for Real Madrid going into the 2023/24 season. Apart from the experienced heads, Bellingham finds a load of younger players, most of whom he will have to battle against for a starting berth in this team. Frenchman Aurelien Tchouameni, a £68m acquisition from Monaco, has just completed the first of his six – year contract at Real Madrid. He is only four years older than Bellingham. There is also Eduardo Camavinga, another French youngster to offer Bellingham competition, and he is only a year older.  Then there is Federico Valverde; the Uruguayan has been at Real Madrid for some time now and is almost hitting 200 appearances for the club. These will not be players Bellingham finds easy to topple, especially with the pressure that comes with his price tag.
